Facebook dominates the social media market with more active daily users than any other platform. To reach these users, the CDC’s Guide to Writing for Social Media, suggests posts be:
- Action orientated –All Facebook post should include a “call to action,” whether it is a link to more information about VR services, an article about tips for finding a job or an accessible YouTube video.
- About 250 characters – Facebook allows posts to be up 420 characters, but only 250 characters show up in the news feed.
- Written in plain language – Posts should be written in active voice, free of acronyms and jargon.
- Image heavy – Facebook posts should include at least one photo. Posts that include pictures get more views.
Facebook can be a valuable tool for reaching consumers and building a VR presence, but sometime it is hard to think of what to post. You can use social media to discuss the great work your VR agency is accomplishing as well as to highlight what is happening at the local and national level. Below we give examples of Facebook posts that fall into the top five (according to us) content areas for VR agencies. For each example, the text of the post is written in the body of the blog followed by a photo showing what that post looks like on Facebook.
1. Examples of posts highlighting consumer success stories:
Using consumer success stories to connect browsers to more information is a great way to drive people to your website. The two examples below highlight how to use consumer success stories on your VR agency’s Facebook page.
EXAMPLE: Please join us in congratulating the recent Soft Skills Academy graduates. The Soft Skills Academy teaches youth ages 14-16 important skills for being successful at work. Find out if the Soft Skills Academy is right for you or your teen
EXAMPLE: With the help of #VocRehab Nancy’s hot dog sales were through the roof at Saturday’s farmer’s market. Way to go Nancy!! Learn more about how VR might be able to help you start your own business!
2. Example post highlighting a disability and employment news story:
There are frequently news stories that focus on disability and employment whether it is a new piece of state or local legislation or accolades for an exemplary business. A Facebook post highlighting a national news story might be:
EXAMPLE: Congratulations Starbucks for scoring 100% on the Disability Equity Index (DEI)! Thank you for being a role model for inclusion.
3. Example posts highlighting job search tips:
Presumably, most people who look at your Voc. Rehab Agency’s Facebook page are looking for a job. Use your page to post relevant job search tips. For example:
EXAMPLE: True or false, your Facebook posts can affect your job search? Learn about how what you share on Facebook may be keeping you from getting a job.
4. Example post highlighting other disability related services:
There are likely other resources in your community that might benefit VR consumers. Use Facebook to draw attention to them.
EXAMPLE: Get out and get active this summer! MonTech at the Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities has a bicycle to help you hit the open road (and trails!) this summer!
5. Examples of posts highlighting historical events of interest to the disability community:
Finally, use Facebook to highlight historical events significant to the disability community!
